WestAid invites you to participate in its 9th Annual Trinity Trek on Saturday, September 6 at 8:00 a.m. at the Heart of the Ranch (Clearfork Main Street and Edwards Ranch Road) in Fort Worth. This event is the aid agency's annual family- and pet-friendly fundraiser. Sign up for 1-mile walk/run, a 5k race, or just come for fun. Food and tee shirts are available.

WestAid Summer Donation Requests

 
WestAid is in full swing this summer offering help to people in need in Southwest Fort Worth. Many days more than 50 families are seen. All non-perishable items are needed; especially toothbrushes and toothpaste. Donations may be left in the bins near the kitchen or SAM building.
 
WestAid always needs volunteers, both regular and substitute. If you have time to be part of this worthwhile mission, please send an email to the volunteer coordinator.

WestAid Asking for Summer Donations and Volunteers

 
Summer is right around the corner, and our friends at WestAid are asking for some specific items to help feed the increased number of clients they have in the months when school is out. WestAid's goal is to provide “kid friendly” food in its inventory for the summer. They are asking for the following items for the summer months: canned pasta (and other heat-and-eat foods), ramen noodles and other dried soups, mac and cheese, jelly, peanut butter, cheese, sandwich meats, and hot dogs.
 
WestAid is always looking for willing volunteers. The need is for three mornings each week to help picking up donated food from the Neighborhood Market on Vickery and a couple of local Walmart stores. The donations from these stores have greatly enhanced the inventory at WestAid, so it's critical to have an adequate number of volunteers to pick up and unload the food.
 
Also, there are several regular and substitude spots open for volunteers at the WestAid office. The two shifts are 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 12:00-2:30 p.m. WestAid is located at 7940 Camp Bowie West, Fort Worth, 76116. Call them at 817-737-9338, send an email, or visit their web site. WestAid: New Opportunity; Help Requested from Director

When God closes one door, sometimes the next one opened is really big and really wide!
 
For several months we had been preparing to add another store to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Vickery, where we already pick up donated food three days per week. Circumstances recently arose that kept that from happening.
 
However... I have been contacted and we have been offered 3-4 days per week pick-ups at the Walmart store in Benbrook! This is a very large store with a tremendous poundage of food. This is definitely a “God-thing” that has come at a much needed time. It is difficult for me to put into words how significant this is to WestAid’s food ministry.
 
I am contacting you because I want you to know and you might guess… help is needed. Can you get the word out? We must have extra help to make sure this happens. There are several committed volunteers that pick up at the Vickery store, the food bank and also the associated stocking. We must increase our volunteer pool to insure this will happen.
 
The time frame: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the 8-11 a.m. range; One day per week; Subs on an as needed basis.
 
The process: Load food from store, deliver to WestAid, unload. Help is also needed to stock shelves at WestAid. Trucks and trailers are a big help but we can use you in some way without one. The bottom line is help is needed during these times. If you or someone you know can help please contact me and I will be more specific or forward you to our pick up coordinator. WestAid - and Its Clients - Could Benefit Greatly from Your Contributions

 
For the 17th consecutive year, the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation will divide $1 million among anti-hunger agencies nationwide using this program as a spur for organizations to raise funds during March and April 2014. Our friends at WestAid will be participating, reporting their donations and pledges during the next two months to the Feinstein Foundation for consideration. Donations can include cash, checks, and food items (valued at $1 per item or pound).
 
You can help WestAid by bringing donations to the collection bins in Room 230 (adjacent to the kitchen) or the SAM Building. Or, take donations of food or money directly by WestAid at 7940 Camp Bowie West, Fort Worth, 76116, 817-737-9338.

Immediate Need for WestAid Volunteers

 
From Peggy Grona: There is an immediate need for volunteers to help with food pickup for WestAid. They have a truck but are short on volunteers. If anyone can donate a couple of hours a week to help with food pickup, it will enable WestAid to better serve those in need. Please contact Charlie Stark and he can give you all the information. WestAid: January 2014 Update

 
From Peggy Grona: The first day after the holidays WestAid had 77 heads-of-household come in. Needless to say, the food and hygiene items are going quickly. Presently they are in need of canned beans, canned fruit, and rice. WestAid relies on the generosity of Arborlawn members and other donors to continue its mission of helping to improve the lives of citizens on the west side of town. Donations are appreciated and may be left in the WestAid Baskets in Room 230 (adjacent to the kitchen) and in the SAM Building. Monetary donations may also be made online at WestAid.org.

WestAid: October 2013 Update

 
From Peggy Grona: WestAid has been serving southwest Tarrant County for more than 25 years. It's the only food pantry open five days a week on the west side of Fort Worth. The past couple of months WestAid has been overwhelmed by so many more people in need of assistance. The number grows daily, and it's been difficult to address even the basic food needs. Many of the shelves are bare.
 

The agency needs basic non-perishable food and toiletries; especially shampoo, toilet tissue, and toothpaste. WestAid depends on donations to keep its doors open, and members of Arborlawn have always been very generous in their support. Donations may be left in the WestAid baskets in Room 230 (adjacent to the kitchen) and in the SAM Building. Monetary donations may also be made online at WestAid.org. Thank you for enabling WestAid to make a difference in the lives of others.

Rain causes roof damage at WestAid

 
From Peggy Grona: As welcome as the rain was for most of us, WestAid received extensive roof damage Tuesday night, August 13. The agency will be closed at least through the weekend of August 17-18. When WestAid is ready to open back up, they will likely be serving a larger than normal number of families needing assistance. Please consider volunteering, even if temporarily. WestAid update, July 2013

 
From Peggy Grona: WestAid continues to assist more than ever before. During the first six months of 2013, an average of 691 families have been helped each month compared to 482 per month a year ago. Many of the families have several children.
 
The 3-for-3 summer food promotion continues with the following items in greatest demand: boxed macaroni and cheese; canned pastas (mac and beef, ravioli, etc.); peanut butter and jelly; boxed juices (100 percent juice); individual sizes of fruit or pudding.
 
Volunteers (substitutes and full-time) are needed in every area; one or more needed every work time; the work times are 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:00-2:30 p.m. If you can volunteer 2.5 hours weekly, bi-weekly, or as a substitute, please call the WestAid volunteer coordinator, Diana Getchell, at WestAid at 817-737-9338.
 
WestAid receives food primarily from: individual, church, school, business, and community-oriented food drives; purchases from local retailers; retail donations; and Tarrant Area Food Bank food orders.
 
Please note personal care products (shampoo, soap, dental care products, deodorant, etc.) have been in short supply. Many retailers sell these for $1 or less.
 
WestAid is very grateful for donations, volunteers, and prayers, all of which help carry on this important mission.

WestAid: critical need for summer volunteers

 
WestAid has a critical need for volunteers this summer. Several of the agency's faithful volunteers have notified WestAid that they will be gone this summer (from one week to all summer). Unfortunately, this comes at a time when WestAid needs additional volunteers. The organization needs help in three specific areas: Greeter/Reception, Intake, and Pantry. Adults and students (teens and up) are welcome.
 
This is a great time for someone who might only be able to work when school is out. Even if you have only short blocks of time, WestAid can find a place for you. Serving at WestAid would also qualify as community service if a student needs that option.

WestAid: preparing for kids being out of school

 
From Peggy Grona: The Trinity Trek fundraiser has come and gone, and we appreciate all who participated in any way to make it a success.
 
Many of the shelves are empty at WestAid, so we certainly appreciate any donations. WestAid is now getting ready for the families with children who will soon be out of school for the summer. Currently shelves are very low on canned meats, pasta, and tomato sauce, and completely out of canned soup and canned stew. Also, please bring plastic and paper grocery bags.
 
Arborlawn's support enables WestAid to stay open to help those in need. Donations may be left in Room 230 (the kitchen) or at the donations area in the SAM Building.

WestAid (7940 Camp Bowie West) announces its 8th Annual Trinity Trek 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk/Run on Saturday, May 11.
 
The fun this year is at Panther Island Pavilion (1098 West Peach Street, Fort Worth, 76102). The 5K race start at 8:00 a.m., while the 1-Mile course gets going at 9:00 a.m. There will also be a blessing of pets during the family-friendly event.
 

Registration is $20 the day of the race and $12 each for teams (three or more participants). You can register at the event.
 
Funds raised at Trinity Trek help WestAid provide services to individuals in need due to lost employment, medical emergencies, and/or the addition of unplanned "mouths to feed," etc.

Client numbers increasing at WestAid

 
The number of clients coming to WestAid for assistance has increased greatly since the agency's move to 7940 Camp Bowie West (northwest corner of Cherry Lane and Camp Bowie West; behind West Side Cafe).
 
Along with the increase comes a greater need for donations to WestAid: monetary, food, and personal care items. WestAid especially needs soups and canned pastas at this time as well as cornbread mix kits. Also, please save your paper grocery bags (from Braum's, etc.) and bring them to WestAid.
 
Arborlawn's support enables WestAid to stay open to help those in need. Donations may be left in Room 230 or at the donations area in the SAM Building.

Arborlawn has always been generous in supporting WestAid in their mission, and that support is appreciated. WestAid offers nonperishable food, toiletries, and gasoline cards. Donations may be left in the boxes in Room 230 (adjacent to the kitchen) and in the SAM building. WestAid (7940 Camp Bowie West) is responsible for rent and utilities, so we’re grateful for donated funds to help with that.
 
Food moves off our shelves quickly. Any non-perishable food is always appreciated, but especially canned vegetables, fruit, cereal, and always mac & cheese.
