Missions Group Enjoys Successful Trip to UMCOR Sager Brown

 
From Carol Proctor: Fifteen Arborlawn members had a wonderful and productive mission trip to UMCOR Sager Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana last week. We inspected, assembled and packed baby layette kits and sewing kits; trimmed bushes around the facility; installed bumper rails and shelves in a storage building; and worked in the community repairing homes.
 
We enjoyed fellowship with Christians from around the country and worshipped with them. Our group also had a lot of fun playing games in the evening, and we had some wonderful meals. We took a very pleasant visit to the beautiful Rip Van Winkle house and gardens on our afternoon off. God truly blessed our trip!  
 
It is also important to mention that, after some hard campaigning, Libby Patterson - who ran unopposed - was elected as Miss UMCOR Sager Brown. She is surely the first person (and probably the last) to hold that title. Libby is still enjoying being “queen,” so congratulate her when you get a chance!

CTC Hosting Early Response Team Training at Arborlawn on February 22

 
The Central Texas Conference is hosting Early Response Team Training at Arborlawn on Saturday, February 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
 

Be part of the solution when – not if – disaster strikes. Disasters don’t just happen “somewhere else.” In the past two years, the CTC has been directly affected by wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and the explosion of a fertilizer plant that rocked the city of West. One of the primary ways the Central Texas Conference responds to disasters is via our Early Response Team (ERT).
 
The cost of the class is $30 and covers all class materials and lunch. Registration is limited to the first 35 attendees and there must be a minimum of seven persons registered a week prior to the training for it to make.

Mission Team Working at UMCOR Sager Brown in March; Prayers Appreciated

 
Adult missionaries from Arborlawn are doing work at the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Sager Brown Depot outside of Baldwin, Louisiana in March. The group, led by Carol Proctor, is leaving Sunday, March 9 and will return Friday, March 14. We ask everyone to pray for this mission and for the safe travels of our church family members who are participating.
 
If you are interested in being a part of the 2015 trip, please prayerfully consider your involvement and mark your calendars for March 1-6, 2015.
 
The United Methodist Church is prepared to aid relief efforts in any part of the world because of UMCOR. The Sager Brown Depot stockpiles disaster relief supplies and stages them for ready distribution to global emergency zones.
 
The main mission effort of the Arborlawn group is to pack relief supplies. The relief packages include health kits, birthing kits, school kits, and layettes. Some group members also work in Baldwin at Habitat for Humanity projects, elementary schools, and at a women's shelter.

Children's Sunday School collecting UMCOR Health Kits

 
During the upcoming Children's Sunday School FaithWalk Rotation called "Thanks Living" (Oct. 28 through Nov. 18), the children will be putting together UMCOR Health Kits. We could use your help in collecting items for the kits. All of these items must be new. Please bring your donations to the downstairs rotation hallway or leave them in the church office. Donated items are welcome during the entire duration of the rotation, which winds up Nov. 18.

1 - Metal Nail File
1 - Toothbrush
1 - Bath Size Soap Bar
1 - Box of Band Aids (regular size only; they can't send the boxes with multiple sizes)

UMCOR mission trip cookout and planning meeting August 12

 
All participants in this year’s September mission trip to UMCOR Sager Brown are invited to attend a cookout and planning meeting at Eric and Deborah Neill’s home. Come and get acquainted with others on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12. Cindy Jacobs (mission trip leader) will be there to answer any questions you may have regarding the trip. The Neills will provide pulled pork sandwiches. Please bring a dish to share.
