Starting Sunday, Apr. 1, Arborlawn will begin a group for caregivers that will offer both emotional support as well as practical material for providing care. The goal of this group is three-fold: 1) offer tools of caring for yourself and reduce “caregiver’s stress”; 2) offer tools that can help you to “thrive,” not just “survive” as a caregiver; and 3) remind you that you are not alone.
The role of the caregiver can be both physically and emotionally challenging. Recent statistics indicate that more than 22 percent of caregivers are exhausted when they go to bed at night (if they go to bed at all), and it is estimated that between 40 and 70 percent of caregivers have clinically significant symptoms of depression. Furthermore, caregivers often neglect caring for themselves. Because of this, caregivers are at risk of increased health problems, disrupted relationships, burnout, depression, and a decrease in the quality of care they are able to provide to their loved ones.
If you are interested in being a part of this group, please contact Bryan Bellamy (or 817-731-0701). The group size will be limited, so sign up soon.
