KidsJAM (Joy And Music) starts October 2

 
Children in Pre-K and Kindergarten are invited to KidsJAM (Joy And Music)! This is a fun-filled music activity session that engages 4- or 5-year-olds in games, singing, movement, and playing instruments. Along the way, the kids learn Bible truths and discover the music inside of them.
 

Designed by music educators, KidsJAM provides sequential learning of age-appropriate pre-music-reading activities incorporating Kodaly and Montessori methods.
 
The fall 2013 semester starts Wednesday, October 2. Join us in Room 133 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Children who were 4 years old or 5 years old as of this past September 1 may participate. For more information, please contact Pam Stoker.

KidsJAM (Joy And Music), Arborlawn’s choir for children ages 4 and 5, is holding an Open House at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. The group meets in Room 133.
 

Parents and other family will see what the KidsJAM children have learned this spring. New 4- and 5-year olds (and 3-year olds who will be 4 by Sept 1, 2013) and their parents are invited to attend as a preview to enrolling in the fall.
 
FaithWalk Rotation
 
Upcoming FaithWalk topics: May 19: Pentecost Sunday. We will learn what this Sunday is all about and play some fun games! May 26: Movie Day. Come join us in the theater and have some popcorn as we watch a movie.
 
Vacation Bible Camp (July 15-19)
 
Vacation Bible Camp (Everywhere Fun Fair: Where God’s World Comes Together) is July 15-19 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day. Come join us for this exciting week for kids Ages 3 years (and potty trained) through exiting 5th Grade. For the younger preschool kids we will have storytelling, crafts, music, snacks, and games. For the older kids we will have crafts, science, missions, story, snacks, games, and more. On the last day of VBC we will have a Fun Fair!
 

There will be face painting, a bounce house, carnival games, cotton candy, prizes to win, and many more surprises. You won’t want to miss this fun week. Mark it on your calendars and invite a friend. Register today. VBC is free. For more details on Vacation Bible Camp, contact Melissa Hedger.

Listen for the joyful voices: Kids' Choirs Open House Wednesday, Dec. 14

 
The Arborlawn Children’s Choirs have done a beautiful job singing in traditional worship over the past few weeks. If you would like another opportunity to enjoy music with our kids, you are invited to enjoy our Children’s Choir Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 6-7 p.m. All choirs meet in the Children’s Hallway on the Sanctuary level.
 

You will be able to tell which rooms we meet in by listening for the laughter and children’s joyful voices. Carol Choir (Pre-K, 4, K) is in Room 120. Canticle Choir (1st, 2nd) is in Room 146. Cantate Choir (3rd-5th) is in Room 133.

Kids' Choirs start semester with enthusiasm

Our new Wednesday night Children’s Choirs rehearsals started with with a wonderful kickoff last week. Kids and grownups all experienced a lot of laughter, joy, and excitement. We certainly hope for and expect many more fantastic rehearsals as the autumn unfolds.
   
We have so many great kids and teachers. Our goal is to enrich the lives of the kids with music and spiritual growth. Our dream is to see the children grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through the beautiful gift of music. Perhaps the songs the write on their heart today will stay with them for a lifetime.
   
Join us from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Carol Choir (Preschool 4 and Kindergarten) meets in Room 120. Canticle Choir (1st and 2nd Grade) practices in Room 146. Cantate Choir (3rd through 5th Grades) rehearses in Room 133. All three of these room are in the Children’s Ministries area on the Sanctuary level. All questions about our Children’s Choirs should be directed to Karen Gossett (or 817-731-0701).
   
We have a nursery available for infants through Age 3. Contact Nell Cantwell (or 817-731-0701) for nursery arrangements.

Children's Choirs start new semester Sept. 7; Wednesday nights will be bustling

[Editor's Note, 9/9/11: Children's choirs kicked off in grand style this past Wednesday evening. Be a part of this year's choir season! Join us for our Wednesday meal at 5 p.m. in the Gathering Area. What an exciting time in the life of Arborlawn! One of the big changes is the new Wednesday evening schedule. In order to be more family-friendly, all music rehearsals are moving to Wednesday evening. A sandwich supper will be offered from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Commons Area of the new building. (Check out the menus for upcoming weeks and reserve/purchase meals here.)
   
The two adult handbell choirs will meet at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Children and Youth choirs will meet from 6-7 p.m. Chancel Choir will continue to meet from 7:15-9 p.m. There will be a nursery for all children from infants through Age 3. Finally, there will be plenty of Adult Discipleship offerings for adults. 
   
The new schedule will kick-off on Wednesday, Sept. 7. You will be able to register outside your child’s classroom on that evening. Here is the breakdown of children’s choirs:
   
Carol Choir (Preschool 4 & Kindergarten), Room 120 (last room on the left in the Preschool Hallway). Teacher: Pam Stoker.
   
Canticle Choir (1st and 2nd Grade), Room 146 (big gathering area in Children’s Hallway; location of Groundbreakers Worship on Sunday mornings starting Sept. 18). Teacher: Christa Zimmer Fontenot.
   
Cantate Choir (3rd through 5th Grades), Room 133 (former Saints & Sinners classroom in Children’s Hallway). Director: Karen Gossett. Accompanist: Peggy Hardegree.
   
Children’s Choirs will be using Stepping Stones curriculum from Chorister’s Guild this year. Stepping Stones is a sequential music education component for weekly choir rehearsals based on Kodaly methodology. Children will enjoy singing games, music for learning and worship, vocal exercises, and hymns. There will be opportunities for our Children’s Choirs to share in worship throughout the year.

Join us on Sunday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary for our Spring Children’s Choir Concert. The Cherub, Carol, Canticle, and Cantate Choirs will sing and the bells will ring. It will be a wonderful night of music and celebration for the children. We hope the sanctuary will be filled with supporters!    
 
Also, mark your calendars for Children’s Choir Camp, which will be held the week of June 13–17, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day. Choir camp is for any student who has completed 1st through 6th grades. We will spend our week producing a musical, which will include learning music and solos, acting and speaking, creative movement, creating props and scenery, and other fun. We provide snacks each day, and students bring their own sack lunches. On Friday, June 17 at noon, the entire congregation is invited to come watch our show. 
 
Registration begins May 1. If you are interested in being a part of the adult or youth helper team, contact Jennifer Portele.
