SUMMER AT POLY CENTER
The Poly Center (United Community Centers) thanks you for sharing your slightly used school supplies with them. They also received a gift of school uniforms from the daughter-in-law of one of our members. You have been so generous. Keep the summer clothes coming for another three months. If you clean out your children’s toy box, we can always use small slightly used toys. For more details, see Joanne Bittiker or Madelyn Dean.

We are still seeking labels for education for the McCurdy School in Española, NM. The annual adult mission trip to this Methodist institution leaves June 25, and any labels turned in by that date will be taken to the school by the mission team. Bring labels to the jar in the Gathering Area. If you don’t see the jar, bring them to Rooms 101-102 (the Ben Feemster New Testament Class), give them to Jim or Evelyn McKimmey, or leave them in the Missions box in the church office. We really appreciate all who have faithfully brought labels for this worthy cause and hope you will continue. When the mission team returns from New Mexico, new information will be available about which products carry these labels.
 
WESTAID: EASY-TO-PREPARE
Many kids will be home all day during summer, eating more meals there. Summer is a challenge for families, and they need more assistance than usual. WestAid is seeking child-friendly items (mac and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, canned pasta, etc.) WestAid depends on donations to meet the needs of these families and appreciates the generosity of Arborlawn members. Please leave donations in the box outside the Parlor or in the SAM Building. Monetary donations may be mailed to WestAid, 4701 Bryant Irvin N., Suite #100, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Keep WestAid in your prayers as they continue to look for a new location. If you know of any leads (or know someone who does) about an available location, contact Peggy Grona.

RANGERS GAME JULY 10
Arborlawn Students are sponsoring a trip to see the Texas Rangers play the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, July 10, and everyone’s invited! First pitch is at 2:05 p.m., and we plan to tailgate in the Ballpark lot as soon as everyone can get over there after church. Tickets are $18. Register and pay online here.

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.” When you volunteer at the Food Pantry at Arborlawn, you are feeding the sheep of the Good Shepherd. Contact Rev. Judy Williamson to volunteer. The Food Pantry is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
 
JULY 4 CONCERT
Baseball. Apple pie. Mom. Arborlawn’s July 4 concert. These things  all produce a special image in our minds. Join us Monday, July 4 at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary for the traditional Independence Day concert you’ve grown to cherish. If you want to sing, wear your red, white and blue and show up for practice from 4-6 p.m. Those who sing at the concert enjoy a delicious barbecue meal from 6-7 p.m.

Members Pat and Amy Gotcher are opening their home for this season’s second Lawn Party on Thursday, June 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is a celebration of friendship and church family. The menu is ice cream and more ice cream. Reservations are appreciated, but not required.

SINGLES MINISTRY ABOUT TO BEGIN
Arborlawn will be kicking off a new ministry in June for singles of all ages. If you’re single, divorced, or widowed and are interested in being a part of this new ministry, you are invited to join us for an evening of fellowship and hors d'oeuvres on June 16 at 7 p.m. in the Gathering Area. This will be a great opportunity to meet other singles at Arborlawn and in our community and contribute to the development of this exciting new ministry. EL BUEN SAMARITANO FUNDRAISER
Arborlawn is hosting a dinner to benefit El Buen Samaritano UMC on Wednesday, June 8, 5-7 p.m. in the Gathering Area. A Mexican dinner will be served. Take-out boxes will also be available. El Buen Samaritano UMC needs a new air conditioning system, so this event is a fundraiser for that effort. The system will cost approximately $35,000, so your generosity is appreciated; especially with the hot summer coming up soon. Watch for more details in the worship guide inserts between now and the day of the event.
 
TEXAS RANGERS GAME: JULY 10

FCN SPONSORING EXERCISE-AT-HOME SEMINAR
Arborlawn's Faith Community Nurse ministry is hosting two special speakers on Thursday, May 12. Dr. Deborah J. Rea and Sara Bennett Schaffer will be presenting “Exercising Your Demons: Core Strengthening at Home.” The seminar is planned for 7 p.m. that night. Watch for more details.

WestAid is very appreciative of the donations received from Arborlawn, making it possible to assist the many families. WestAid currently needs basic food items such as mac and cheese, cereal, canned green beans, and canned fruit. Any non-perishable items are always in demand, as more families are in need than ever before. Items may be placed in the WestAid basket near the parlor and in the SAM Building. “WHY JESUS?” STUDY STARTS APRIL 28
Thursdays, Apr. 28 through May 12, Room 105, 7-8:30 p.m. Culture is blurring the lines between different faiths. It is increasingly difficult for people to grasp how their faith in Jesus Christ is unique. People might even be tempted to ask “Why all the fuss? What here is worth devoting my life to?” This three-week, young adult study will explore what it is about Jesus that continues to fascinate and compel us. PLACE TO BELONG STUDY BEGINS NEXT THURSDAY
Place to Belong women’s group begins a new study on Thursday, Apr. 28, 7 p.m., in the Parlor. The group is for single women and other women who may be worshipping alone. “What’s So Amazing About Grace?” is a 10-week study by the award-winning author, Philip Yancey. Each session is enhanced with a 12-minute DVD segment. The book and study guide may be purchased by contacting Bette Smith, or you may buy online or through area stores. Chapters 1-3 and Session One questions should be completed for the first class meeting. Please join us!

POLY CENTER CLOTHES NEEDS
Keep those spring and summer clothes coming for the Poly Center. We hand out more than 600 articles of clothing to at least 36 families each of the three days we are open. Now that we have room upstairs, we can store those gently worn winter clothes when you clean out your closets for spring. Also, we now have space for bedding, towels, light curtains, and some dishes. If you are curious about working with us, sign up to work at least one day this summer on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. Contact Madelyn Dean or Joanne Bittiker for details.
