MERRYMAKERS: MONTHLY
Seniors, we hope you’ll join us in Merrymakers. Our monthly potluck meal is on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Our next gathering is Wednesday, Sept. 28. We are not just about making trips into the community. For first time visitors, you don’t even need to bring a dish. Just be our guest. We shall enjoy your company, and we hope you’ll like us enough to come again and again. We meet in the SAM Building, and we have prayer at Noon followed by feasting. At 1 p.m. some stay for games for an hour or so, and some rush home for a well deserved nap. For more information, please contact Marilyn Anderson.
AL-ANON GROUP
Are you troubled by someone else’s drinking? Al-Anon is for you! A group meets here on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in Room S-23, SAM Building. For more information, contact Johnny Johnson.
GOOD NEWS: FROGS IN THE FOOD PANTRY
Thirty-eight nutrition students from TCU will be staffing Arborlawn’s Food Pantry on Wednesday evenings this fall. This is the second year students in the Food and Culture Class at TCU have helped at the Food Pantry. Arborlawn volunteers are needed to work with the students from 5:30-7 p.m. Volunteers can select which Wednesday evenings to work. People needing food can come by appointment after their work on Wednesdays evenings. The Food Pantry is also open from 9 a.m. to Noon on Monday and Wednesday mornings each week.
WESTAID
Some days as many as fifty heads of households come to WestAid for assistance. Some come because of unemployment, some are senior citizens raising grandchildren (and even great grandchildren), some have experienced illness and are unable to provide food for their families. Many tell us they have to choose between paying the rent or buying food. Many families have school children home for the summer and making their own meals. WestAid is in need of child-friendly food such as peanut butter, canned pasta, soups, cereal, etc. in order to help these families. Summer has taken a toll on WestAid’s food supply, and shelves are getting bare. WestAid depends on donations, and any non-perishable foods are appreciated as are monetary donations. Your help is appreciated and used wisely to help our neighbors in need. Donations may be dropped off in the WestAid boxes in the SAM Building and in the steam table room adjacent to the kitchen. Details: Contact Peggy Grona or WestAid (817-737-9338).

A NOTE OF THANKS
Dear friends: On behalf of the whole Wordinger family I would like to thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and presence during this recent difficult period. Barbara and I often remembered fondly our time at Westcliff United Methodist Church. I pray God’s blessings on Arborlawn as you move into your new facility and continue to grow. In Christ, --Bob Wordinger.
PRAYERS
We offer prayers of sympathy to Kay Nichols in the death of her mother, Ruth Nichols, and prayers of thanksgiving for Jeoffrey Johnson and Adrienne Nicholls, who were recently married.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Arborlawn’s Stephen Ministry will host the third annual Lunch and Learn on Sunday, Aug. 21, immediately following the late services. Stephen Ministry provides short-term, one-to-one, distinctively Christian caring to members of Arborlawn in times of need. Perhaps illness, job changes, loss, divorce, or relocation have added stress. And someone to listen, encourage, pray, help to find useful resources, and hold your concerns in confidence would be helpful. This is the role of a Stephen Minister. If you would like to learn more about becoming a Stephen Minister, join us on Aug. 21 for Lunch and Learn. For more details, contact Judy Williamson.
EL BUEN SAMARITANO
Arborlawn will host another dinner to benefit El Buen Samaritano UMC on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 5-7 p.m., in the Gathering Area. A Mexican dinner will be prepared and served by members of El Buen Samaritano. Take-out boxes will also be available. El Buen Samaritano UMC is still in need of a new air conditioning system, which will cost approximately $35,000. Tickets are $10. You may reserve your tickets through the church office or purchase at the door. If you are unable to attend the dinner, you are welcome to make a donation. We appreciate your generosity.

PEWS TO BE AVAILABLE
Another tangible milestone in our move into the new facilities is the coming need to do something with our current Sanctuary pews. Once we hold our final service in the Sanctuary, the pews will be available for a church or other organization that could use them. We have 50 pews, each measuring 19-feet long, and the price is negotiable. If you know of any groups that might be in need of pews, have them call us at 817-731-0701.

UCC NEEDS FOR AUGUST
United Community Centers needs money for school uniform polo shirts for elementary children. If you give your money through the church, we can purchase the shirts tax deductible and at a group discount price. The generous donation of uniforms this summer is being used wisely. However, we found there was a void in school polo shirts for children. We will have to buy most of the shirts needed. If you donate, please mark checks with “UCC school uniforms” in the memo line. All we can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. All the volunteer help you have given this summer to the Clothes Closet and to the Styles & Smiles Fashion Show (and all of the clothes you have shared) are appreciated so much. This summer we have had new families with children who are so grateful and senior citizens (who come the third Friday of each month) who are so excited with the quality of clothes we have to offer. Arborlawn is such a blessing to so many people.

We joyfully announce the birth of Evelyn Swenson Moll, daughter of Chris and Jacquelyn Moll. Also, Georgia Wright recently turned 102!
SINGLES MINISTRY MEETING JULY 28
Arborlawn’s Singles Ministry is meeting Thursday, July 28, 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Room 225. The study topic for the meeting is Redefining Grace. Groups will go out to dinner afterward.
KROGER PLUS CARDS
It’s time to re-link your Kroger Card Plus for Missions! Last year Arborlawn’s Missions Team received $273 from Kroger as part of a “giving back to the community” program. It is an easy process. Each time you buy from Kroger and use your Kroger Plus Card, a portion of your purchase comes back to Arborlawn. To get started, you need to give the check-out clerk your Kroger Plus Card and a letter from the church with the church’s bar code. You only need to do this once. With each subsequent purchase you will need to use your Kroger Plus Card in order for Arborlawn to benefit. The letters with Arborlawn’s bar code are available in the Gathering Area and in the church office. Questions? Contact Bill or Jenny Rogers.
MOMS GROUP MEETS JULY 26
The next meeting of the MOMS Group is Tuesday, July 26 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Room 220. We'll be having food, fun, and planning for our autumn activities. Join us! Read more about MOMS (Mothers Offering Mutual Support) here.
PRAYERS OF SYMPATHY
Join us in prayer for the following: Frieda and Becky Jennings in the death of husband and father, Malon Jennings; Bob Wordinger in the passing of Rev. Barbara Wordinger (former Associate Pastor at Westcliff); Pam and Dan Perrine in the loss of Pam’s Aunt Carol.
UCC DONATIONS IN JULY
Thank you again for all the clothing donations for United Community Centers. The church is putting the donation bin in the steam table room of the kitchen for your summer donations of clothes. If you have several large bags please contact Madelyn Dean or Joanne Bittiker to meet you at the church at your convenience, or come by your house to transfer the bags to one of our cars. The church is so limited on space at this time; this procedure will save all of us from dragging large bags in and out of the church. A special thank you to new summer volunteers who are working while the regulars are out of town. Don’t forget Styles & Smiles Fashion Show at the Poly Center next Tuesday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m.
WESTAID: EASY-TO-PREPARE
Many kids will be home all day during summer, eating more meals there. Summer is a challenge for families, and they need more assistance than usual. WestAid is seeking child-friendly items (mac and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, canned pasta, etc.) WestAid depends on donations to meet the needs of these families and appreciates the generosity of Arborlawn members. Please leave donations in the box outside the Parlor or in the SAM Building. Monetary donations may be mailed to WestAid, 4701 Bryant Irvin N., Suite #100, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Keep WestAid in your prayers as they continue to look for a new location.
JULY NICA: HAIR CARE
The Northside Inter-Church Agency is asking for shampoo and conditioner during July. Bring donations to the NICA baskets in the steam table room next to the kitchen or in the SAM Building.

“SPRUCE IT UP WEEK” THANKS
From Julie Jacobs: Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped paint the church the week of June 20. Everyone’s schedules are busy, and to stop and do this to help out is much appreciated. Thank you!
OPEN LETTER TO ALL ARBORLAWN MEMBERS
From Charles Chick: As many of you know I had a real rough road back to good health after my back surgery. Thanks to God and Jesus, and the loving ministry of Arborlawn’s many prayers, cards, and personal visits, I am finally back to Sunday worship at my appointed station. I have been very derelict in stating my personal feelings about your wonderful support to both Nancy and to me during those hard times. I have returned to Arborlawn with a new faith in the Holy Spirit and the future of our wonderful church called Arborlawn. I look forward to being in church every Sunday and seeing each of you. ARBORLAWN RECOGNIZED AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Our congregation was recently recognized at the Central Texas Conference annual meeting in Waco. This is CTC’s Centennial Year, and Arborlawn was named a Centennial Church. This distinction involved criteria in evangelism, mission, and generosity. Arborlawn was also named a Five-Star Mission Church and a Global Mission Partner Church. Finally, we were mentioned for supporting the missionary Virginia Canafax.

Please leave donations in the steam table area of the kitchen or in the SAM Building.
UMW SUMMER READING
The United Methodist Women Summer Reading Program concludes July 19. Join Jo McCormack from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
