A very special memorial service was held Thursday, July 25 in the Arborlawn Prayer Garden, located between the Elizabeth Cramer Chapel and Sanctuary. During the service, tokens of loss from the 2012 Hope for the Holidays worship service where buried in a special ceremony.
The tokens of loss, which are placed on the altar rail each year at Hope for the Holidays, denote a willingness to lean into the hope we have in Christ and the promise given that we are never alone. Each picture, toy, or piece of memorabilia symbolizes the grief and loss experienced by individuals and families.
Deb Sewell conducted the service (reading from Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those who are crushed in spirit”), and DeAndrea Dare led those in attendance in a final prayer.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Hope for the Holidays worship service on Thursday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
